Meat is a regular staple for many people. Since prehistoric times, they have been eating it. However, the meat we eat today is different from the type of meat they ate in the past. As back then, the diet of the animals consumed consisted of grass, insects, and they would roam around freely. Which is not the case today, and continuing to consume meat can lead to the increase of the risk of cancer.
Today, these animals are treated rather poorly and suffer a lot of cruelty. We must try to avoid eating red meat, as not only is it harmful to us, but also because these animals are treated poorly. The two types of meat that are mostly eaten are processed meat and red meat.
Let’s first understand the difference between these two types.
What is Red Meat?
Red meat is the kind of meat that is derived from farm-reared mammals. It consists of goat, lamb, mutton, beef, and pork. That, however, does not include white meat such as fish, chicken, or turkey in it.
What is Processed Meat?
Processed meat, on the other hand, is the kind of meat that has been changed through smoking, fermentation, salting, curing, and other processes to boost its flavor. These may range from canned meat, hot dogs, corned beef, and sauces. That proves that not only is processed meat harmful to us but all kinds of meat.
Meat Causes Cancer
According to the 2015 published report by the International Agency on Cancer and Research, a subsidiary of the World Health Organization, it has been established that processed meats and red meat are carcinogenic. That is because they proliferate the risk of cancer in the colon and rectum at an estimated ratio of 18%.
It is never too late to make changes in your life. You must remove meat from your diet as it can become toxic for us if we overdose on it. It has been summed up best by Paracelsus, a German swiss physician in, the following words:
“All things are poisons, for there is nothing without poisonous qualities. It is only the dose that makes a thing poison.”
The only reliable solution to this problem would be to have a plant-based diet that is not only nutritious but also healthier.
