A chronic blood condition is a health condition that lasts more than one year and causes functional restrictions or requires ongoing monitoring or treatment. According to the World Health Organization, chronic diseases are among the most prevalent and costly health conditions all over the globe. These life-threatening disorders are responsible for seven out of ten deaths in the United States of America for a total expenditure of two trillion dollars annually.

The casualties from these chronic diseases can be prevented if the early diagnosis is made possible. Therefore, early diagnosis is one of the main focuses of researchers in the field of health science as it helps in the timely management of diseases.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease in which the body fails to produce or respond to the insulin hormone. Disturbance in insulin secretion or appropriate response against insulin ultimately leads to a constant high Blood Glucose Level (BGL), a condition termed as hyperglycemia. Therefore, measuring BGL is considered an important diagnostic marker for DM.

The most commonly employed test for the clinical diagnosis of diabetes is known as Fasting Blood Glucose Test(FBGT). This test involves the measurement of the blood glucose level of a fasting body. The reading is considered normal if your Fasting Blood Glucose is lower than 100 mg/dl, while if the measurement of fasting blood glucose crosses the threshold of 125 mg/dl, then you already have diabetes, and you need immediate treatment.

Foods Affecting Blood Glucose Level

Several known environmental factors play a significant role in increasing BGL. These include eating calories and fats rich foods that make you obese. Meat is a known example of such foods that make you obese and ultimately increases your BGL. Other foods that can increase BGL dramatically are fish oils, processed foods, and high sugar drinks. On the other hand, plant-based diets help you to improve your BGL and assist in averting obesity and obesity-linked secondary complications.
